Learning From Experience with Jamie Yoo
By Rodney Mardirosian, MHA
Los Angeles, CA – Tucked away behind the 101 Freeway and Beverly is a small hospital you may not have heard of. Sitting at the helm is a young COO named Jamie Yoo. On January 31, he sat down with sixteen HCE members to share his career progression from administrative fellow at Hollywood Presbyterian to moving to Minneapolis to his current role as the Chief Operating Officer at Silverlake Medical Center. He spent the duration of the Learning From Experience session fielding operations questions, and sharing his vision for his current institution, as well as sharing his career aspirations.
Jamie shared three key points that have made a difference in his career: 1) work hard; 2) take on more projects to learn new knowledge and/or gain new skills, and 3) find a mentor. And lastly, he made it a point to tell the group to “be goofy” (with oneself), as a reminder that not every detail we deal with in our work life needs to be taken too seriously.
There is no doubt you’ll be hearing more about him in years to come.
